The Footbar Tracker

- What is the Footbar tracker?

It is an 8-gram, 8-mm-thick tracker that evaluates the performance of football players based on a dozen criteria, thanks to an accelerometer coupled with artificial intelligence (AI).

- What is the difference compared to a GPS?

A GPS works with location. Our tracker understands the body's movements without knowing the position. It's as if it had learned to recognize all the football player's movements. The two are perfectly complementary.

- Does the tracker get in the way during the game?

No! Ultra-light, thin and small, the Meteor is placed on the back of the "strong" leg, on the upper part of the calf, under the sock. It does not interfere with the player's movements, who immediately forgets that he is wearing a tracker.

- Can I wear my Footbar tracker on a body part other than my calf?

No, our technology is currently based on the "upper calf" position. Using it anywhere else will give the tracker incorrect information, which will not be able to calculate your stats accurately!

- Does the Footbar tracker consider my foot data to be "weak"?

No, the tracker only considers data from the leg it is placed on. We recommend that you use the tracker on your "strong" leg, as that is where you will get the best stats. Currently, our AI is not yet able to detect passes and shots made with the leg that is not wearing the tracker. However, we are continuing to work on this.

- Can I use my tracker in official matches?

Since it is hidden under your socks, you can wear it during amateur matches, subject to local regulations. We recommend that you ask the referee for permission. Our tracker is currently worn by Luxembourg’s professional national team players, and clubs use it for their weekend matches.

- How do I get my session statistics?

  1. Place the tracker on the back of your "strong" leg, at the top of your calf.

  2. Turn on the tracker through the app by going to the "Sensor" tab and selecting your tracker from the list. Then press the large white button to turn it on.

  3. You can put your phone away; it will not be needed during the session.

  4. After the session, open the app, select your tracker in the "Sensor" tab, turn it off by pressing the green button and download your statistics.

  5. It should take 1-2 minutes for your stats to download. You'll receive a notification when it's ready, or you can go directly to "Profile" > "Sessions".

- Where can I see my statistics?

Simply go to your profile and click on "Sessions" in the top left corner to access your session data and the history of all previous sessions.

- What is the maximum distance between the phone and the tracker during the session?

To connect to Meteor (to turn it on, off or download data), you need to be close to the tracker, within about 5 meters. However, once the tracker is turned on, the app can be closed and the phone put away. Bluetooth is only used to turn the tracker on and off and to download data at the end of a match or training session.

- My tracker keeps disconnecting during the session. Is this normal?

Yes, this is perfectly normal as the tracker does not need to be connected to the phone while you play. It should be near the phone and connected via Bluetooth only to be turned on, off and to download data.

- What if the app doesn't detect my tracker when I try to turn it on?

Check if:

  • Bluetooth is turned on.

  • The tracker is loaded.

  • The tracker is blinking when connected to the charger.

  • Try using another cable if necessary.

If the problem persists, please contact us via the chat in the bottom right corner of the screen.

- Can I change the characteristics of my session (position, session type, start and end time) in the app?

When viewing your session summary, click the icon in the top right corner and then click "edit". You will be able to select your position, session type, and start and end times before validating your changes.

- I realized that I had no more memory on my sensor, what should I do?

In this case, you must download each and every session still contained in the app. After downloading them, the space in game hours will be freed up!

- How does the championship mode work?

In the championship, the rules are simple: the more you play football during the week, the more points you accumulate to beat your opponents.
Each week, you are randomly placed in a group of 20 new opponents in one of the 10 divisions corresponding to your level.
Now is your chance to prove that you are the best of the bunch: at the end of each week, the top three teams are promoted to the upper division and the bottom three are relegated.

- How does the booster work?

The booster multiplies the points earned by a user during a session, according to their division. The booster starts at x1 when you are in D10 and increases by +1 with each division promotion, reaching x10 when you reach D1.
In other words, the closer you are to D1, the bigger your booster will be and, consequently, the more points your sessions will earn.

- Why do my points decrease in July?

Every summer, the current season comes to an end, and the experience points on your Footbar card go back to 10, just like when you first started Footbar.
But don’t worry! If you performed well in the previous season, your points will quickly return. This is your chance to outdo yourself in the new season!

- Is a subscription required?

No, our app is still free!
We recently launched a premium version of the app with new features, but they are completely optional.

The features that already existed in the app (access to statistics, league, history of all sessions, etc.) remain free and always will be. In other words, nothing has changed for you, even if you have not become a Footbar Gold member.

- What features are included in the Gold offer?

Here are the new premium features we have developed:

  • A detailed monthly report of everything you did with the sensor.

  • A graph showing the progression of each statistic.

  • Access all your records for each stat.

  • Custom targets for various statistics.

  • Possibility to add your goals and assists.

FYI, we offer a 2-month free trial so you can try out all these new features! You can cancel your subscription at any time.

- How are statistics calculated?

Our sensor is able to detect and record leg movements through an integrated accelerometer.

Then, our Artificial Intelligence kicks in. It interprets everything the player has done and deduces actions on the field based on sensor data: movements, passes, shots and dribbles.

- What statistics are measured by the Footbar sensor?

Physical statistics

  • Distance : total distance covered during the activity time, whether walking, running or dribbling (in km).

  • Sprint : number of sprints where, for at least two consecutive seconds, the player's speed is at least 30% higher than his average speed.

  • Sprint distance : distance covered during all sprints (in km).

  • Average sprint : average of the maximum speed in 2-second windows for all sprints (in km/h).

  • Top speed : average top speed in 2-second windows of the 5 best sprints (in km/h).

Balls thrown

  • Shots : number of long balls, including shots, crosses and set pieces, taken during the session.

  • Average kick speed : average speed calculated based on all detected kicks (in km/h).

  • Max kick speed : estimated speed of the strongest kick detected (in km/h).

  • Pass : number of passes performed during the session.

  • Dribbling : number of times the player kept possession of the ball for more than 0.5s.

  • Ball possession : total time dribbling (in minutes and seconds).

Game & Training

  • Activity : Percentage of total time the player was running.

  • Races : total time running, in minutes and seconds.

Race

  • Speed : average time to travel 1 km.

  • Average speed : average speed during the session (in km/h).

  • Pace : time spent to travel each km.

Coach Platform

  • External load : the amount of work performed by the player, based on speed and activity time. The faster and longer a player runs, the greater his load.

  • Intensity Level : Defined by the percentage of time spent above each speed level, based on Maximum Aerobic Speed (MAS).

There are 4 intensity levels:

  1. Low Intensity (LI)

  2. Medium intensity (MI)

  3. High Intensity (HI)

  4. Very high intensity (MAI)

Each level can be manually adjusted by the coach, according to the VMA of his players.

- How do you differentiate between kicks and long passes?

Our sensor has been trained with tens of thousands of hours of video to differentiate between these two movements.

- How is the star rating calculated?

The rating is based on players of the same gender, age category and who play in the same position as you. By comparing your stats (passing, dribbling, sprint speed, etc.) with those of other similar players, we can calculate an average and convert it to a rating out of 5 stars.

- How are ranking points calculated?

The more you use the sensor, the more points you earn. For more details, please refer to the game rules within the app.

- I played for 90 minutes, but the sensor only recorded 75 minutes. How is this possible?

If you were inactive for a period of time — for example, sitting on the bench or standing in goal — the sensor doesn't count that time so as not to distort your statistics.

- Where can I buy your sensor?

Online, on our own Footbar website! NEWS COMING SOON

- Once you place your order, what are your delivery times for a sensor?

This will depend on the carrier you choose and also your location.

- Is there a warranty for my Footbar sensor?

Of course! In case of a technical issue related to the Footbar, your Meteor is guaranteed for ONE YEAR. An exchange is possible, as long as the sensor is returned with its original packaging, the USB cable and the strap.
